Most people are not really free. They are limited by ethics and morality imprinted on them by their parents and the society in general. This is not necessary a bad thing, because it teaches them how to handle different situations and problems in life.
Many people don’t deviate from that pattern, but some go beyond that and makes their own conclusions of what life is all about. Imagine if everything you have learned is wrong. Where would you start to get straight again? We are all influenced by the media in one way or another. How do you know you’re not affected by what they say, and act according to that?
We can’t make any progress if we are slaves to the system. Don’t take anything for granted, and question all information.
If you choose to live free and take the consequences of that, it’s going to be hard. It ain’t easy to try and choose your own destiny, but if you don’t have your freedom, you don’t really have a anything at all.
What we need to do, is to break free of the established ways of thinking, and take a hard look at what really matters. We can’t always look to the past for solutions. What happen in today’s world has no precedence in the history of mankind. We have to look further than that. Next century belong to us.
A partir de uma frase de V. S. Naipaul (“Most people are not really free. They are confined by the niche in the world that they carve out for themselves. They limit themselves to fewer possibilities by the narrowness of their vision.”) um autor anónimo escreve um texto cristalino.
Este texto fazia parte meu blog de 1999 e, lamentavelmente, apenas consegui recuperar esta pequena parte.
